چکیده
Computer Algebra Systems are developing very fast and it is now possible to use new computational power very efficiently to analytically integrate dynamical systems. However, the task of producing an appropriate program is time consuming and requires a considerable amount of skills and practice. Here the merits of numerical versus computer algebraic approaches are compared in the context of a specific problem.

Comparison of two integration schemes for a micropolar plasticity model
Micropolar plasticity provides the capability to carry out post-failure simulations of geo-structures due to microstructural considerations and embedded length scale in its formulation. An essential part of the numerical implementation of a micropolar plasticity model is the integration of the rate constitutive equations. Efficiency and robustness of the implementation hinge on the type of int...
متن کاملA General Rule for the Influence of Physical Damping on the Numerical Stability of Time Integration Analysis
The influence of physical damping on the numerical stability of time integration analysis is an open question since decades ago. In this paper, it is shown that, under specific very general conditions, physical damping can be disregarded when studying the numerical stability. It is also shown that, provided the specific conditions are met, analysis of structural systems involved in extremely hi...
متن کاملHigher-Order Analytical Attitude Propagation of an Oblate Rigid Body under Gravity-Gradient Torque
A higher-order perturbation theory for the rotation of a uniaxial satellite under gravity-gradient torque demonstrates that known special configurations of the attitude dynamics at which the satellite rotates, on average, as in a torque-free state, are only the result of an early truncation of the secular frequencies of motion. In addition to providing a deeper insight into the dynamics, the hi...
متن کاملIntermodal Fare Integration : Application to the San Juan Metropolitan Area
This thesis considers the issues and challenges related to public transportation fare integration, both within a single operator and between different operators. The major aim is the development of a framework for analyzing fare integration strategies, as a tool for decision-makers who are considering pursuing fare integration. This framework was then applied to San Juan (Puerto Rico), both to ...
متن کاملWeighted Quadrature Rules for Finite Element Methods
We discuss the numerical integration of polynomials times exponential weighting functions arising from multiscale finite element computations. The new rules are more accurate than standard quadratures and are better suited to existing codes than formulas computed by symbolic integration. We test our approach in a multiscale finite element method for the 2D reaction-diffusion equation. Standard ...
